Audio CDs and Tapes by

  • Bob Yourell's CDs for EMDR & Meditation, see end of page.
  • David Grand's CDs and Audio cassettes for EMDR
  • Mark Grant's CDs and Audio cassettes for pain and relaxation

  • David Grand - BioLateral: CDs and Tapes for EMDR.

See website for full list and details

These were the first range of ready made quality sounds that I experienced. I have used these tapes over the years ever since they have been developed and found them excellent. They consist of music (without voice guidance) which contain bi-lateral stimulation within the music in various ways. Sometimes the musical beat on the baseline might alternate between the left and right stereophonic tracks. The simplest tapes contain a series of tones but there are a variety of more sophisticated and complex studio quality musical arrangements or ocean sounds to suit all needs. The company has given immediate replacement without question even when a tape was possibly damaged by the user.

    Uses

For use with headphones either replacing the usual visual stimulation in EMDR or separately (with therapist guidance) as an aid to therapy or relaxation. These are not simple relaxation tapes but can be used as standalone products with guidance to enhance relaxation, problem solving and performance enhancement. They are designed to be used with therapist guidance.

Mark Grant: Audio CDs & Tapes for Pain Relief, Relaxation and Stress Management

See Therapists' Resources for more details

I have used these tapes consistently as the best way to relax or work with pain, following standard EMDR treatment with patients. The quality is excellent as are the results. The tapes are also useful for self (therapist) use and for those who do not have major background issues to work with but need to relax or cope with a stressful situation. EMDR work with pain is specialised and this should be done in consultation with someone skilled in this area. After EMDR therapy, the tapes can be used repeatedly by clients to improve their pain control and obtain relief. There is a comprehensive manual on using EMDR with pain
which is also reviewed on my website.

    Uses

For use with headphones NOT replacing bilateral stimulation used in EMDR because they are stand-alone aids in which both words of guidance and music combine to produce the effects required. They are an aid or addition to therapy or relaxation and not a replacement for therapy. Following standard treatment with EMDR, these are the most effective relaxation / pain relief tapes and CDs I have used.

Robert Yourell: Audio CDs for Personal EMDR and Meditative Use

I have only recently come across these CDs but apparently they were the first on the market. They are qualitatively different from the other sounds on the market. They provide a continuous sound experience for 40 minutes or so. Click Bob Y CDs for a full explanation and ordering. Bob describes his CDs as follows: 'UpLevel' provides forty-three minutes of consistent alternating bilateral sound. A light, etheric bell accentuates the steady sweep of soft orchestral sound and has a compelling bilateral effect. 'Personal Journey' provides three features: a theta brainwave frequency, a subtle version of the alternating bilateral (stereo sweeping) sound plus ambient sound (like music, but not patterned in a way one might tire of) with angelic voices. It is deeply relaxing and some people use it for deep meditation or to improve sleep. 'EvoLucid' offers shimmering layers of abstract sound that slowly evolve. The sounds sweep in synchrony, creating the alternating bilateral sound. Somewhat mysterious, perhaps even dark.

    Uses

These CDs contain over 40 minutes of continuous sound sources that can assist in achieving meditative states or with EMDR proceeses - designed to be used with the guidance of a therapist.
